A Major Step Forward - Noise Emission Prediction Now Incorporates Line Array Radiation

One of AFMG´s core competencies is in the field of acoustical simulation, such as the accurate simulation of line array performance. Our innovative developments include AFMG’s FIRmaker technology and subwoofer array modeling using EASE Focus.

This expertise is frequently requested throughout the industry when companies develop new solutions or products for sound reinforcement applications. For example, recently AFMG became involved in the latest release of IMMI – the well-known environmental noise prediction software by Wölfel Engineering GmbH + Co. KG.

Noise pollution considerations are increasingly gaining importance in the planning of open air events. Until now, typical software tools supported only simple point sources in the modelling of outdoor noise propagation. This limitation led to a growing demand to describe and include more complex sound systems such as line arrays. Only when this is done can compliance with the requirements of the particular application be ensured.

AFMG’s software solutions have already proven to work very well, using detailed loudspeaker definitions as provided by manufacturers or independent labs. Specifically, EASE SpeakerLab Pro facilitates data export of simulated directivity characteristics for modern sound systems. These computation results can be saved in XHN format in order to be used for acoustic noise predictions by other software.

Launched this fall, IMMI 2017 added an essential new feature allowing the import of XHN-files. This enables consultants and sound engineers to utilize the results of AFMG´s highly advanced line array simulation within IMMI. Thereby their noise distribution analyses can take advantage of the entire EASE® loudspeaker database – with over 3,000 models from more than 100 manufacturers.

As a result, IMMI is now capable of making more precise predictions about the expected noise impact levels. These calculations create a reliable basis for the approval process and for practical implementation. Technicians on site can be confident that their setups actually conform to applicable regulations as well as to the requirements given by local authorities.

This first implementation represents a significant starting point for future developments in the field. AFMG is pleased to have supported this effort and is looking forward to further projects of this kind.
